Mentoring is a good option for those seeking personal growth, directive guidance, and honest and direct feedback. Mentoring is designed to help with a variety of goals, including improved communication, implementation and maintenance of healthy boundaries, increased assertiveness, clarity in life choices, increased academic success, achievement of specific life goals, increased confidence, resolution of specific problems, unlocking potential, increased motivation, and those looking for greater overall self-improvement. While the aforementioned can also be addressed via traditional psychotherapy methods, the directive approach and mutual sharing of information between mentor and client sets mentoring services apart from therapy.

Mentoring is most likely NOT the right fit for those experiencing a severe mental health issue, active suicidal ideation and/or self-harming, or those experiencing significant disruption in daily functioning.
