Child and Teen Therapy

Animating Principle works with children and teens, ages 3 to 17, on a variety of behavioral and environmental issues to help your child or teen increase healthy coping, communication, and self-regulation. Animating Principle utilizes the latest evidence-based interventions to improve overall emotional and psychological wellbeing, in a safe, fun, and creative space.

Animating Principle works with children and teens, ages 3 to 17, on a variety of behavioral, environmental, and mental health issues. Virtual sessions are offered, but in-person sessions are preferred for optimal results (based on Animating Principle’s experience). An Eclectic approach (including Cognitive-Behavioral, Art, Mindfulness, and Client-Centered play and talk therapy) is utilized to increase emotional and self-regulation, focus, healthy expression of emotion, self-esteem/confidence, and effective coping and communication skills.

Animating Principle goes beyond the traditional therapy model to understand and expand your child or teen’s world. Every aspect of treatment is fully individualized, even down to the snacks and positive reinforcement incentives offered through our innovative Spinner Program, developed by CEO Britney Holthouser, LMFT (lic.#102221). The Spinner Program brings old-school Behavior Therapy (think Pavlov, Watson, Skinner) concepts into the new world and combines them with Exposure and Mindfulness-Based-Cognitive Therapy concepts.

Animating Principle has found that this approach increases therapy engagement and outcomes in a fun and interactive way. Britney specializes in working with gifted children/teens, ADHD, Anxiety, and individuals who have had difficulty making progress elsewhere.

The innovation doesn’t stop there. Recently, Britney and her husband Sean created Animating Principle’s Workshop, which offers lower-cost therapy options for children and teens (individual/group/art therapy services). AP’s Workshop uses a modified version of the Spinner Program, as well as other creative therapies, to serve a wider range of the community and promote in-person social connection.
